This is a long story. In the interests of interest, I'll keep it pretty
brief.
In the very beginning, February 2004 I suggested
going on a "long cycle ride" to a friend
and first thoughts were to travel the north sea
cycle route, I knew little about it but agreed.
Later myself and my friend turned our attentions to Africa instead, Cairo to Cape Town,
and then including Europe as it was pointless missing
this out really such is it's brevity in comparison to Africa! As a rough guess I figured that this would
be about 9000miles, and thought it stupid not to carry on and just go around the world.
But, things didn't go as planned, we trained hard and worked hard saving money but soon fell foul to a dreadful injury - both of us! If one of us was healed the other would be injured, and if not this scenario then both of us were injured. Many set departure dates came and went and with each one our morale dropped further, but not our resolve. The closest
we got to leaving being seven days before a departure date of December
28th 2007, when I injured my leg again standing up off the floor having spoken with my friend on the phone at length about packing lists.
In June 2008, after 16 months of injury-riddled cycling
we decided enough was enough and we set about
making new plans for the future.
I decided that motorcycling was the way forward,
though this was a very difficult decision as it was hard to give up on the cycling dream....though
looking back I sometimes wonder why it seemed such a difficult thing?! My friend had other ideas for himself and so I had to consider going alone. Finally, after much toil, deliberation and even stress I decided to do so, with some unease at the thought of being alone on the road for such a long time and not knowing a thing about motorbikes!
